Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems Group is currently seeking a Principal Engineering Technician to support our Engineering team in our Clearfield, Utah location.

Job Description:

Support manufacturing in mid and high-rate composite part production facility. Work closely with operations and quality personnel to solve production issues in layup (hand and automated), secondary bonding, autoclave cure, machining, NDI, assembly and final inspection processes. Resolve issues on the spot to keep production moving with little to no schedule impact while maintaining the quality of the product and safety of the operation.

Role Description & Responsibilities:

  • Position will support the FCC Operations, Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams

  • Provide manufacturing floor support to address issues that may arise during the production of composite parts

  • Work closely with Operations and Quality to implement manufacturing solutions to keep production running

  • Central point of contact for all production process issues related to all aspects of the work flow (includes EWI, HMI’s,etc)

  • Author and revise procedures (electronic work instructions)

  • Participate in Process Observations to assure adherence to the process

  • Participate in and support failure investigations

  • Assist in identifying and implementing Corrective Actions

  • Support MRB rework or repair processes as necessary

Experience Requirements:

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 6 - 8 years of composites, aerospace, manufacturing experience


  • High School or GED required (education will be verified)

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in composite process technologies such as:

  • Hand layup and automated fiber placement

  • Bagging, oven and autoclave cures

  • Film Adhesive and Paste Bonding

  • Machining, assembly drilling and hardware installation

  • Must be proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Able to read and interpret engineering specifications and models / drawings

  • Must be able to communicate concepts, ideas and procedural steps to others in a clear, concise and effective manner

  • Able to follow procedures, document and report results using MS Office

  • Able to make informed decisions using available data

  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and consistent attendance

  • Innate problem solving skills

  • Willing to work unconventional shifts occasionally to complete assignments

  • Schedule for this position is as follows: 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Monday thru Friday

Experience Preferred:

  • Knowledge of root cause / corrective action processes and techniques

  • Knowledge of Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)

  • Functional knowledge of production control systems

  • Experience authoring, modifying and auditing procedures with Solumina (EWI)
