Northrop Grumman Innovation Systemsis currently seeking aBallistics Analysis Engineerto join our team inRocket Center, WV, just outside of Cumberland, MD. The Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) site in Rocket Center designs, develops and manufactures tactical rocket motors, medium caliber ammunition, composite components and end items, and fuze and electronics equipment. For decades, the dedicated and highly skilled team at ABL have supported national security efforts by developing and building defense systems for DoD customers and U.S. allies.

Job Summary

TheBallistics Analysis Engineer (Associate Mechanical Engineer)will work in the exciting and challenging world of tactical propulsion. Responsibilities center on the use of various technical principles and software to mathematically define problems, and compute the engineering characteristics and performance variables consistent with specifications, design needs, and requirements.

Foundations in math, physics, thermodynamics, propulsion, and computer skills are important in evaluating rocket motor performance of various defense and aerospace systems. Coursework and/or skills related to statics, dynamics, fluids, thermodynamics, rocket propulsion, computer skills/programming (MATLAB, FORTRAN, Solid Modeling, Excel) are all desirable.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Use in-house developed software to analyze and predict pressure, thrust and other performance variables for given propulsion design

  • Provide technical assessments of results and provide recommendations/justifications for design modifications

  • Report analysis results in written and oral formats

  • Perform anomaly resolution and conduct special studies

  • Provide innovative and ingenious solutions to solve technically complex and challenging problems

  • Interface with internal/external customers and with support personnel in design and testing

Education and Experience:

  • BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, (3.0 GPA or higher)

  • Must be a U.S. citizen; ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance is required.

  • Working knowledge of rocket propulsion

  • Working knowledge of Thermochemical Codes and calculations

  • Proficiency with, MATLAB, FORTRAN, Siemens NX and Microsoft Office

  • Knowledge of CAD modeling

  • Script writing, workflow automation

  • Previous experience in an aerospace manufacturing facility is preferred
